If you are on Medicaid you do not have to re-enroll for 2016 coverage

Posted on Oct 8, 2015 in News

Soon you may be hearing about an Open Enrollment period allowing individuals and families to apply for health insurance beginning on November 1, 2015. This Open Enrollment is different than the Annual Plan Change that the Department of Human Services (DHS) just had October 1 – 15 2015. The Open Enrollment that is being advertised is for people who are not covered under Medicaid, purchased their insurance through the Hawaii Health Connector or do not have health insurance for calendar year 2016.
If you and/or a family member are covered by QUEST Integration, also known as “Medicaid” you and/or that family member do not have to do anything.
If you have friends or family who may qualify for Medicaid but they haven’t applied yet, they can do so at any time. Applicants may submit an application on-line at mybenefits.hawaii.gov or fax, mail or drop-off the application at one of the Med-QUEST Division (MQD) offices. Please see insert for MQD office locations and mailing addresses. Please remember that applications are processed more quickly if they are filed on-line with complete information.
If you have friends or family who do not qualify for Medicaid and need health coverage for 2016, there may be affordable options available. Starting November 1, 2015, they can go to:
HealthCare.gov or call toll-free1-800-318-2596 (phone lines open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week)
If they would like to find local assistance in how to enroll they can also call the Hawai‘i Health Connector toll free at 1-877-628-5016
